How to Contact the Police

As tourists any crime needs to be reported to the tourist police, while there is a police station in the centre of Cusco they do not deal with crimes against tourists, but they will refer you to the tourist police.

At the tourist police, you can find English-speaking police workers who are helpful with dealing with any robbery, attack, etc

The tourist police are located in Plaza Tupac Amaru, ask any taxi to take you to "Policia de Turismo, Plaza Tupac Amaru" price for the taxi should be 6-12 soles.

Problems that the police usually cannot help with

If you have problems with a Peruvian business, like a tour agency, hotel, restaurant, etc the police usually cannot help with those problems.

There is a Peruvian government agency in charge of consumer protection for tourists called iPeru, they will usually try and help and mediate between you and the business, and in many cases have helped tourists get refunds, changes in rooms, etc.

There are a few iPeru locations and they usually work from 9 am to 6 pm

• Plaza de Armas - with BCP (Peruvian bank) just on the corner of the plaza and gringo alley (Procuradores Street)

• At the Cusco airport

• At Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) de town closest to Machu Picchu
